"I don’t want to come back down form this cloud"

A perfect song and amazing lyrics to describe my first ever skydiving adventure and at the same time it somehow describes my life in general lately.

First, the important stuff. Skydiving = totally indescribable experience. I highly recommend it if you have never been. If you are on the fence, my friend’s video will show you exactly what our experience was like and probably scare you out of ever wanting to jump. (Mike’s guy went easy on him. I told my guy to do some flips and get crazy — he listened)

When I jumped, we did some flips, some spins, and even torpedoed through a massive cloud (which was amazingly full of rainbows). It was an experience I will never forget for the rest of my life. Just watching the video gets my heart racing.

That is what life is all about: trying new experiences and living with no regrets. It’s about staring fear in the face and saying “Fuck you fear. I’m jumping out of this plane anyways and somehow I’m going to end up safely on the ground.”

And then you jump.

And suddenly all that fear is gone. You are totally immersed in that moment. Nothing else matters except really enjoying the experience and then hoping that the clips hold when the chute gets pulled.

Skydiving is the ultimate metaphor for building a startup.

You’re 10,000 feet in the air, one foot out of the plane, you have your vision, and almost everyone thinks your completely crazy. That ground seems awfully far away, almost impossibly far. You have no clue about what’s going to happen from the time you leave the plane until the time you reach that vision of your feet solidly planted on the ground. But you do know that you are in for one hell of a ride.

Once you jump, there’s only two possible outcomes. You figure out a way to make that vision real. Or you don’t.

I know my vision is about 9,842 feet away right now, but don’t worry. I’m already out of the plane, and I’m most definitely going to figure out how to execute that vision. A whole lot of arm flapping, craftiness, hustle, tenacity, and blood, sweat and tears.

See you on the ground.
