This is my latest post in my Free Startup Ideas series.

I've been coming up with business ideas since my earliest childhood memories. Most of them have been absolutely terrible. Some of them have been decent. And now I'm going to give away some of my best ones for free.

Am I really give these ideas away with zero expectation of return? Absolutely.

  1. Ideas are worthless. It's all about execution. If you want to take one of these ideas and run with it, do it. I'll even be happy to give you a brain dump with all of my notes on the idea as I’ve been thinking about most of them for a while.
  2. I take coffee meetings all the time with people looking for startup ideas. Perhaps one of these ideas will help them spark a new idea of their own.
  3. I want to get these ideas out of my head to clear some of my brain's RAM. That way I can come up with new and better ideas.
  4. I like giving things away and planting seeds.

Without further ado...

Pitch: I attend my fair share of sporting events in person. Baseball games, football, some basketball, some hockey. After a particular game, I quickly forget what happened. Who was the starting pitcher, who scored a touchdown, what was the final score. With Sport Checkin Stats, we read your Foursquare / Swarm checkin data and create a statistical data profile for every event you've ever attended.

Backstory: Ok, so first things first. Is this a startup? Probably not. It just seems like something really cool that I would love to see build. A good hacker could probably build this in a weekend. I want it to exist. I'm sure other sports fans would equally love this. That's as good a start as any when creating a startup.

I've attended some epic sporting events, like Jeter's 5-5 game when hit a home run for his 3000th hit off David Price. It was amazing. There's a frame or two of me in the stands on Jeter's HBO special. I've also attended some rather boring games. Regardless, I want to remember these things. I want to know the Yankees record for games I've attended. I want to know how many times I've watched Mariano come out to Enter Sandman and lock down another Yankee victory. These are really only relevant to me for the games that I've attended, but any time you curate something for a specific person, it is going to be very interesting to them.

SCS: Sports Checkin Stats

We do a quick authentication and pull of your Foursquare / Swarm checkin data. We filter out any data that has do with a sporting venue. This is our starting point. We then need to do some cross-referencing of data to find out exactly what sporting event took place that day. From there, we'll create a profile for you for every sporting event you've attended.

This sporting profile will include win-loss records for every team you've ever seen. It will include individual statistics for every player you've ever watched. You will know exactly how many three points you've seen Seth Curry make in person. For most people that's probably irrelevant, but you could say the same thing about #throwbackthursday and that doesn't stop people from posting weird, old pictures every week.

There's something here. I'm just not sure what it is. It's like a sports version of TimeHop but with really fun data. Perhaps there's some way to make a fantasy sports app out of it. You could also do this with music concerts and the song playist. I don't know. I'll leave it to you to figure out how to make it work.
