This is my latest post in my Free Startup Ideas series.

I've been coming up with business ideas since my earliest childhood memories. Most of them have been absolutely terrible. Some of them have been decent. And now I'm going to give away some of my best ones for free.

Am I really give these ideas away with zero expectation of return? Absolutely.

  1. Ideas are worthless. It's all about execution. If you want to take one of these ideas and run with it, do it. I'll even be happy to give you a brain dump with all of my notes on the idea as I’ve been thinking about most of them for a while.
  2. I take coffee meetings all the time with people looking for startup ideas. Perhaps one of these ideas will help them spark a new idea of their own.
  3. I want to get these ideas out of my head to clear some of my brain's RAM. That way I can come up with new and better ideas.
  4. I like giving things away and planting seeds.

Without further ado...

Pitch: The Internet of Things and the Smart Homes are two terms that have dominated the hardware news recently. Everyone wants a piece of the action, but consumers need to be educated. Smart Interior Design is an interior design agency that specializes in the latest technologies and how to implement them into your current or new home.

Backstory: When I was out in Boulder, CO in the summer of 2012 for Techstars with DigitalOcean, there was a company which became known as Revolv. They were definitely ahead of the curve in the Smart Home market and they seemed to be well positioned to make a dent in the world. They eventually were acquired or acqui-hired or whatever happened for them to become part of Nest which then became part of Google. Ahhh, consolidation. Regardless, that was my first real glimpse into how technology is going to radically change our homes.

Fast forward to early 2015 and there are oh-so-many products out there to make your home smarter. One thing that's missing is an interior design agency that specializes in bringing the best of this new technology into your home.

Smart Interior Design

There's definitely nothing revolutionary here. This is all about riding a massive technological trend. Be the general store selling supplies to the gold miners.

There may be some companies that are doing this already (although my quick google search didn't come up with anything), and there are definitely existing interior design companies that are going to jump on this band wagon. This company would win by being the premiere expert in the world in smart homes.

If you can be completely focused on doing one thing better than anyone else is the world and that thing is significant, then you have a chance. And this certainly qualifies. If you are really into technology and interior design, this is the opportunity of a lifetime.
